Men’s Platinum Wedding Rings
Introduction
Most of the societies in the western countries of the world such as: the United States of America, the United Kingdoms, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweden or Denmark etc, there is a prevailing social custom of offering the Rings to the girl by a boy and vise versa, who get engaged for their prospective marriage. Such rings are usually made of precious metals like White Gold or Yellow Gold or Platinum. The rings are also often studded with precious stones and gems such as Solitaire or Diamonds, Emeralds, Sapphires or Rubies. Basically, on two different occasions such rings are offered to the companions by each other, firstly at the time of their getting engaged (known as the Engagement Ring) and the other instance is their marriage ceremony which is known as the Wedding Ring. The people from the richer sections of the societies generally prefer to offer their rings made exclusively from the Platinum metal.
The Men’s Platinum Wedding Rings
Though Platinum is considered as the expensive precious metal, people choose getting their Wedding rings made from that metal only. The people choose either Rings or the Bands made of Platinum that is usually an alloy of metals such as Platinum and Ruthenium and are usually referred as PLAT or PT950 which is perhaps the highest purity mark of the available Platinum Metal used for making Rings and Bands. The use of Ruthenium makes the metal slightly harder and rather durable as compared to Platinum combined with Iridium. The most ideal Rings are recommended to be made from Platinum blended with hand-woven or braided pattern.
Before settling down on the best precious metal for getting your Wedding Ring made, it is suggested to evaluate certain useful points for the Platinum also. The purity marks designated by the Federal Trade Commission – FTC under Title 16, Sec.23.7 which denotes: (1) “The following abbreviations may be used for quality marks on the articles: “Plat” or “Pt” for Platinum. (2) An industry product consisting of at least 950 parts / thousand Platinum may be marked or defined as “Platinum”. Make sure that you get the cent percent Platinum material with quality marking of “PT950”, the true value for your hard earned money anyway.
The Difference Between Platinum and White Gold
For turning the yellow gold into the White gold some metals are alloyed whereas the Platinum has its natural white color. The Platinum is far more durable than Gold, besides it is one of the heaviest metals. Platinum is said to be heavier by about 60% than 14K Gold. All these properties attract people to go for Platinum jewellery, but simultaneously the care and maintenance of Platinum demands some more attention than gold. However, platinum in its pure form is of course the softer metal and when it is alloyed with Ruthenium, it gets extremely strong as well as malleable. Due to this reason if 100% pure Platinum is used for making the Men’s Platinum Wedding Ring, the ring would easily bend and scratch also if compared with PT950 Platinum. So in short, it is advisable to use Platinum with just 95% purity. Beware, some jewelers offer PT900 Platinum which is slightly inferior and contains lesser Platinum.
