Jewish Wedding Rings
Introduction
Since the day of wedding is the most special day in any body’s life, one would always wish to make it the most remarkable in every possible ways. There is a custom in the Western world especially that each wedding person usually gifts a Gold or Diamond studded Ring to his or her life partner as a token of expressing his or her love, affection and gratitude towards the better-half. Different countries believe in different design or patterns. In most of the countries, there is a system that the boy offers the girl to wear the Symbolic Ring on the fourth finger of her left hand as that very finger is said to be having the “vein of love” which is directly connected with the human being’s heart. The same way, the Jewish people too have their own so called custom of offering rings to their life partners. Such rings have some uncommon features and perhaps for that they are usually known as the Jewish Wedding Rings.
The Jewish Wedding Rings
Unlike other standard wedding rings, the Jewish Wedding Rings are usually made in the shape of Bands produced by using the white gold or the yellow gold. The bands are generally of semi-round shape from their inner surface forming a hollow arc shape. On the inner wall of such bands or rings the people mostly get some phrases inscribed to designate their wedding occasion. The most commonly used script for these phrases is said to be as old as 17th Century and most popularly known as the Italian Hebrew Script.
The Jewish Custom for the Wedding Rings
Unlike other countries of the world, the older Jewish women have the custom of wearing their wedding rings on the ring fingers of their right hands, but when their oldest daughter gets married, the very ring is being put on the index finger of the young lady. Whereas on the other hand, when the Jewish men get married, they wear the ring on the index finger of their right hand only. There after, the most women replace the ring on the traditional “ring finger” of their left hands. The basic reason behind such system may some what be like during the Talmud periods there was variant beliefs about which finger is closer or directly linked with heart. According to the Christianity, the ring finger was the right one having direct connection with heart whereas the Judaism always taught that only the index finger has the link with the heart.
The basic reason behind wearing the wedding ring is said to encourage maintaining the loyalty and strong integrity between the duo and for that simply any finger of any hand may be okay undoubtedly anyways. Some Jewish also were said to believe that the ring is indeed round as the part of the ceremony was all about giving a gift to the bride of the minimal amount of value in the form of a coin, thus the ring is understood to be a coin that could easily be worn on the finger for symbolizing the theme.
