Definition: The Prom is an abbreviation for the word “Promenade” which is being used for describing the formal dance conventional concerts held at the end of the High School scholastic years in the United States of America and Canada, especially. Such Proms are of two categories like: Junior Prom and Senior Prom designated for celebrating their 11th Grade year and the High Schools years, respectively. In the United Kingdoms, the word Prom is more widely understood to be in reference to the season of classical concerts that are usually held between July and September every year since 1811. It has also been noticed that in some cases, the high school students accumulate funds for their class prom celebrations through some fund-raisers over a period of four years of their attendance in the high school. The high schools within the larger cities generally rent ballrooms at the expensive hotels or at to be an exceptional, they rent venues like pleasure cruise boats. Groups of some of the students do not want to be left behind and they hire a limousine to their proms. In many cases, the gyms of the schools are used for the prom events to curtail the cost. The music generally played during the dance events is often the types of the most popular with the attendees since most of the students consider the Prom night as the most romantic and memorable night of their lives. In some exceptional cases, some untoward incidents due to improper behavior or occurrence of violence under alcoholic or drugs effects are common anyway, though tried hard to discourage.
The Prom Kings and the Prom Queens: Generally one of the participating women who have been adjudged the best on the basis of her costumes, personality and dance etc, besides free and fair polling by her colleagues, is crowned as the Prom Queen for the night. Similarly out of the man, the best participant is elected under the same process and declared the Prom King for the night.
