Electronic Air Purifier

The past few years has seen an increase in the demand, and understanding of air purification. This is mainly because of the rising number of pollutants being released to the air we breathe which in turn causes allergies and health problems. It is with the help of air purifiers that it is possible to get pure and fresh air to breathe. There are different types of air purifiers in the market today, where each appliance has a different and unique technology in ridding the air of impurities.

The more popular choices in air purifiers are the HEPA filter and ozone purifiers; however electronic air purifiers are generally much more effective than others. This is because the HEPA filter is no use against gases, fumes and odors. The ozone purifier does little about the elimination of particulate matter. However an electronic air purifier uses an effective technology in absorbing all contaminants found in the air.

Frederick G. Cottrell was the first person to develop the concept of electronic air filters. It was because he lived in a smoke filled environment that he had to try out new and better air purification methods. So keeping this in mind, he developed a process that worked in charging the particles of smog found in the air. These particles then got attractive to the opposite charged particles like a magnet. This in turn leads to elimination of these particles from the air and to make them stick on the oppositely charged medium. This was the phenomenon used in electronic air purifiers.

In electronic air purifiers, a charge is placed in the air that passes through the purifier while an opposite charge is placed on a collection of metal plates, the medium of the air purifier. When the particles stick on the medium, they don’t enter the air. This is why electronic air purifiers are much more effective in cleaning air as it is the charged particles that stick to the medium, and not the absorbed ones.

The size of the collection plates, the volume of air passing through the unit at a time and the intensity of the electric field that is generated all determine the efficiency of the electronic air purifiers. Moreover, electronic air purifier have little maintenance requirements, unlike other air purifiers as there are no filters to be changed and the collected media can be wiped off using a damp cloth. This is because they use electricity to make particles heavy and drop to the ground. There is no blowing of air through a membrane like in HEPA air cleaners; only circulation of negative ions in the air.

There are different types of electronic cleaners found in the market today. Some use polyester and cellulose fibers charged with static charge to capture particles. Then there are the negative ionizers that use foam pre filters and carbon filters in its air purification. These electronic air purifiers have charged wires that create ions. These charged particles are then blown by the fan into the room, to accumulate on walls and room surfaces.

Electronic air purifiers are very much efficient in purifying the air; with an efficiency rate of about 95%. This is why it is a great option for all your air purification needs.
