Insomnia Sleep Disorder
Insomnia is a sleep disorder that many people suffer from nowadays. It is important to have good sleep for good health; but many people suffer from ill health only because of insomnia sleep disorder. Insomnia is a sleep problem people experience when not being able to sleep.
Insomnia sleep disorder is usually characterized by restlessness, decrease in the amount of sleep, interruptions when sleeping and sometimes, complete wakefulness. With insomnia, the sufferer not only loses enthusiasm and energy, there are also problems in memory and concentration, feeling of frustration and lethargy and of course, a feeling of sleepiness. Sometimes there are also cases of accidents occurring through insomnia sleep disorder, and reduced work productivity.
Sometimes environmental factors promote insomnia sleep disorder as extreme temperatures tend to disrupt one’s sleeping patterns. Even noise and bright lights tend to disrupt a person’s sleeping pattern. Some people suffer from insomnia sleep disorder because of homesickness or sleeping in an unfamiliar place. It is not advisable to engage in vigorous activities like jogging before bedtime as it brings about insomnia. It is also not good to have large meals before sleeping as this induces insomnia sleep disorder as this is the time when the metabolism of the body is most active, and thus makes a person stay awake.
Those who are more prone to insomnia sleep disorder are women because of PMS, menopause, pregnancy and stress. The aged too are prone to insomnia sleep disorder because of aging, students conscious of grades and depressed people tend to suffer from insomnia sleep disorder.
When suffering from insomnia, the person suffers a disruption from normal daily life as they tend to feel tired most of the time. Insomnia is caused from numerous factors like an excessive intake of caffeine or alcohol, stress, emotional difficulties and other diseases. Though lack of sleep itself if not a disorder, it indicated inadequate sleep and harms the immune system.
Sometimes, a person’s in built traits make them vulnerable to insomnia sleep disorder. It is usually some events that occur in their lives that trigger disturbed sleep like jet lag or a change in shift work. You can tell that a person is suffering from insomnia through the behavioral patterns they exhibit. This includes irregular sleep habits, intake of drugs, alcohol abuse, heavy smoking and some other extreme action. Though it is possible to temporarily cure the problem using sleeping pills, this is only a short term solution and not the solution for chronic insomnia cases.
In addition to medication, there are other treatments suggested for insomnia which includes psychological strategies. Doctors also suggest some modifications in lifestyles to alleviate insomnia sleep disorder and this includes good sleeping habits, sleeping when tired and sleeping only in the bedroom. It is also better to develop a habit of getting up at the same time in the morning, avoiding caffeine and nicotine products, following a daily exercise routine and learning relaxation techniques.
