Asthma Exercise
Asthma is one of the respiratory related disorder most commonly found all over the world. There are basically various causes reported to be responsible of developing this respiratory or breathing problem. One of the most commonly accepted reason is the dust allergy. The patient suffering from Asthma gets frequent attacks of breathlessness, but in between such attacks he is otherwise quite normal. The Asthma patient usually appears wheezing for breath. They face tremendous trouble in breathing out as compared to breathing in due to abrupt reflex muscular contractions of the smaller air passages in their lungs. There are three major categories of Asthma so far various medical studies reveal they are: Transient Asthma, Intermittent Asthma and the Chronic Asthma. Asthma may last, one day to one or more months in some specific cases, depending on the intensity of the disorder in an individual.
Exercise and Asthma: Generally it is believed that the exercise may be a trigger for Asthma, especially for those persons when their Asthma is not under good control. However, people suffering from Asthma should not avoid exercising anyway. As long as their Asthma is well under control, they are strongly recommended for exercising to keep their lungs and body in good shape. In fact, exercise helps the Asthma patients in strengthening their breathing muscles; improve their immune systems and help keeping their healthy body weights too. All such advantages when put together on regular basis, would improve their health on the longer run. But the key to the exercise is making sure of their Asthma to be well within the control before they initiate their exercises. It is the known fact that having Asthma does never mean that the Asthma patients cannot exercise. Many well known athletes had managed their Asthma problem to most effectively contend in their preferred sports. The recommended way of exercising with Asthma: The experts have suggested several most effective measures for exercising with Asthma, as appended below:
- Always ensure that your blue rescue inhaler is with you through out
- Ensure that your Asthma is well under control levels, else it may be dangerous
- Never miss out any doses of your recommended medications. If you face trouble in
breathing, you should immediately take your rescue medicine i.e. blue inhaler. Your
physician or the doctor may even suggest you of using your blue rescue inhaler or any
other necessary Bronchodilators at least fifteen minutes before starting to exercise - Try to warm up as well as cool down properly like warm up slowly by walking or stretching or even doing other low level activities before starting exercises. Once you finished the exercising session, try to cool down gradually for at least 10 minutes.
- Never stop exercising abruptly, like if you are running, try to slow down your pace gradually up to the walking speed or say if you have been swimming, try to end up your swimming with slow paddling, giving your body sufficient time to adjust the condition
- Try to protect yourself from other Asthma triggers while exercising
- If symptoms are noticed, stop exercising and take blue rescue inhaler at once
- If your symptoms don’t improve, then consult your doctor on priority.
