Asthma Allergy

It has been noticed that the people with Asthma have allergies that really make their Asthma worse. For the Asthma patients, it is essential to know that they are allergic to what substance. They should try to get rid of or try to avoid the things that they have allergy with. They should take necessary allergy medications also. They should follow the given Asthma action plan if their Asthma symptoms are getting worse. Usually an allergy is the anomalous reaction by our body to certain things or substances that our body is sensitized to, and such substances of things which develop allergies in our body are known as the allergens in the medical terminology.

Allergy symptoms: There may be various different symptoms of the allergies. The patient may report of one or more of the allergic symptoms such as: itchy or watery eyes, itchy & runny nose, itchy skin, eczema or rough red skin, hives or swollen mounds on the skin, or dark circles under or around the eyes, intermittent headaches, and shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing, diarrhea, or even stomach cramps. Actually there are many ways through which the allergens can easily enter our body. There may be several ingested or swollen allergens that enter into our body through the foods we eat or fluids we drink or even certain medicines we may take. Even some inhaled allergens directly enter into our body via our breathing process like: pollen from the grass, trees or plants; the dust; animal dander from dogs, cats, mice, birds etc; mould and many other mediums. Inhaled allergens are considered as the most common cause of allergy problems especially in people having Asthma. However, food and drug allergies are less common amongst all.

Allergies in people with Asthma: Anyone may get the allergies at any point of time even if he has no problems like Asthma. But the people having Asthma will have allergic reactions in their respiratory airways besides common allergic reactions such as itchy, watery eyes etc. the allergens will make the respiratory airways red, swollen and filled with sticky mucus, if the person is already having Asthma symptoms. They airways generally react fast as soon as they are near the allergens and even after some times. They may experience the symptoms like wheezing and feeling shortness of breathing. Their airways are usually extra sensitive, and they get tightened the moment they start breathing in the allergens from the environment. However, such initial symptoms could easily be relieved by the blue rescue inhaler medications.

Anyway, after some times of your breathing in the allergens from the atmosphere, you will feel the second wave of symptoms. Such symptoms are caused by the gradual swelling of the respiratory airways known as the inflammation. Due to the delay in developing such symptoms, it is often very hard to track the exact cause of the reaction or recognizing the thing that caused such reaction. Regular use of Asthma preventive medications like inhaled corticosteroids does help averting such reactions and simultaneously will help treating the inflammation when it happens.
