Stretching Exercises

Most of us know that regular exercising keeps our body as well as mind fresh and healthy. Exercising shields us from illness; it also helps us to keep our body in good shape. Preparing our body for performing exercise is the key to achieve the benefits of exercising.

Human muscles are in a latent state when we are idle and it makes the body movements very slow. Muscle needs to be tuned before undertaking any physical activity that strains the muscles. Whether it is a regular exercise or doing some heavy duties or performing sports or athletics, all these put extra strain to our muscles, if they are not prepared.

Stretching does exactly the same. Stretching makes our muscles flexible while performing the exercise or any activities that need extra energy. Stretching is very important for athletes and sports person before starting their regular exercises and sporting events in order to prepare their body.

Another good reason for stretching is to prevent injuries while doing heavy exercise or sports. As muscles are put into great stress chances for injuries during such activities are very high. Stretching saves from such injuries.
It is also important to do some stretching exercises after completing heavy exercises and sports in order to allow the body to cool down.

The common question often asked by many people, what is the ideal time for doing stretching exercise? Well, early morning is the right time for stretching exercises, because when we are sleeping our muscles are very rigid. In the absence of flexibility they function very slowly and even normal functions take time. Doing stretching exercises at this time helps the muscles to be flexible and prepares them for the hard work it is going to undergo through out the day. The other timing is evening or before going to bed as this will cool down and relax the body.

However, one has to do stretching exercise before and after doing any hard work as it creates extra strain to muscles such as heavy exercise, weight lifting, sports, etc.

One can learn stretching exercises from different sources. The best method is joining a local health club or gym. These clubs provide specialized training programs with the help of experts. One can learn a variety of stretching exercises from them. They are also equipped with stretching machines.

The other avenue is gym learning stretching exercises with the helps of video DVDs or CDROMs. This method is very useful for those who prefer to do exercises at home. The visual effects of video enable us to learn and practice stretching exercises quickly and perfectly. TV Programs also give same benefits as video, except one can’t rewind and play again. The other option is reading some books, attending training programs and seminars, etc. Many websites provide different types of exercises for stretching. Some charge and others are free sites.

Whatever the learning method one follows, he needs to know all aspects of stretching exercises before applying it. Doing exercises wrongly will not only deprive the benefit of stretching exercise, but also affect the normal functionality of body.

Fitness Tip

Don't take the all or nothing approach. It's better to do a little training than none at all. So, even if you can only fit one strength training routine in a week, you'll still benefit from it.
