However when buying items for gourmet cooking, or any cooking, make sure that you check on the expiration dates as some stores aim at disbursing of expired products during sales.

When having a go at gourmet cooking, remember to first read the recipe at least twice. Though preparatory work is important when cooking, it is most important when trying a new recipe. Before starting gourmet cooking, ensure that all the ingredients required for the dish are in the house. Then clean, chop, dice and get whatever you need for the dish ready. Measure liquids and powders needed for gourmet cooking, and have them ready on the counter before starting gourmet cooking.

When cooking, avoid opening the oven when checking if the food is cooked; instead check by turning on the light of the oven. Set the timer at increments of five minutes if more time is needed for baking.

Gourmet cooking is usually heavy food as it is cooked using rich food. However there are some recipes that can be modified with healthy cooking tips, and still avail of gourmet cooking. Instead of using butter or margarine for thickening gravy, try using tapioca with some water. Instead of using thick frosting on cakes, use powdered sugar, cinnamon and cocoa.

Instead of using cream in your soup, use milk or condensed skim milk; it makes the soup part of gourmet cooking, and healthy to eat. If a recipe calls for lots of fat, substituting half the amount of fat with applesauce is gives the same appearance and taste to the dish. When cooking poultry in gourmet cooking, it is better to cook it with the skin on, to be removed before eating so that the meat is kept moist.

Gourmet cooking is usually considered to be rich food that can be eaten by those who can afford to put on a few calories. Otherwise, it is better to implement these recipes with some modifications for people who are already obese, but wish to enjoy gourmet cooking.
