The Car GPS

The car GPS, is nothing but traveling from one place to another and as you move along you can take a look at your progress. There are two main types of GPS systems -handheld types and those fitted into the vehicle. The car GPS navigation system has both computer hardware and software parts, which make up a complex GPS database, stored in its CD-ROM. It is as good as a digital road map with extensive directories of places of interest and businesses in the area.

Another important constituent is the GPS receiver, which receives GPS signals that denote the car’s position as it is moving. Monitor is the screen, which displays the electronic maps, system menus and other essential information needed for the driver. The CD-ROM interprets the database, and the pre stored electronic map features. The central processing unit assembles all the information received from each component, and arrives at the driver’s location, besides working out routes, and displaying the car’s position.

Maps

Normally, the car GPS maps are stored in CD-ROM and as CD’s have capacity for only a part of the information; various discs will be required for different regions. The CDs available in the US will have maps of the entire United States besides that of Canada. Car GPS owners are required to update their CD’s every year. DVD’s are becoming popular choices as they can store more information than a CD. In some rare cases, the GPS might wrongly identify a parking lot as a road and if the driver is solely relying on the car GPS, it is likely to be a harrowing experience for him doing rounds in the parking lot! Urban development has made many GPS units misleading that the driver might settle for a phone to find directions.

Garmin V GPS is the most favored car GPS mapping device, which is equipped with various pre- loaded base-maps in its firmware. If you are driving outside the locations in the local map, the system will automatically turn up to the base map. The local and urban CDs also can be downloaded to make up a comprehensive roadmap. GPS is undeniably the premium positioning system, which provides accurate location information on any point on planet earth at any weather conditions, which qualifies it into a key service segment. Today, car GPS has become an imperative necessity to operate services and goods delivery through crowded city roads and national roads as well as for a hassle-free journey for the travelers.
