Strategic Planning

Strategic planning is one of the most important aspects of organizational functioning. It can be either a boon to structure or be a total failure resulting in huge damage in terms of both personnel and materials. Strategic planning is a backbone to the instructional performance. Sound strategic planning helps in making better fruitful decisions, helping staff in achieving both individual and organizational objectives, promotes personnel functioning and thus workforce development. Overall it forms the foundation for continuous and healthy development and growth both for organization and for its employees.

One of the major reason behind the failure of these plans are that the employees of organization take he plan as a part of upper level only, and make no attempts to link this plan in their own level of working area. It is likely to be seen more as an event rather than a key process of development. Work units working under the head of various departments should try to see this strategy and make them as a foundation of their small- term operational planning. Each of these small units tries to form their short term as well as long-term goals in accordance with the complex strategic plan. The departmental plans form the basis of divisional and work unit plans affecting the allocation of materials and resources along with aiding in attainment of individual objectives.

The most important motive of strategic planning is to see that the unit/individuals objectives are made in consideration with the overall objectives of the firm. It helps in linking the departmental objectives with the day-today working of workers. Each individual members of organization should be motivated to innovate plans in accordance with overall objectives of organization and made responsible and accountable for its execution and results respectively.

Due to inadequate knowledge and experience, members of organization find it hard and incapable of amalgamating strategic plans with their own departmental and individual plans. so it becomes duty of the chief members to discuss in detail about the strategic plans with each of its members and explaining them about the benefits of using the plan and how this plan can be utilized effectively and efficiently towards achieving both individual as well as industrial goals of organization. It will help in making a plan to come alive. Strategic plan should not be referred as only a dead document rather its practical approach and real relevance should be made clear in the minds of personnel to make it effective.

Some Important Points

Try to develop strategic plan as spider web, combining all the important features of organization like human resource development, decision making at all the levels, budget control and setting of individual as well as organizational goals and objectives. It should be made an important constituent of management rather than a single isolated feature.

Try to assimilate and carry out each single individual or departmental plan in accordance with the strategic plan, every time if possible.

Making strategic plan a successful venture is not a one-day process rather it requires everyday efforts on part of each member of organization to achieve it. It can be said as a steeped process. To make it successful, we require regular and energetic steps like regular communication between members, discussions about both failures as well as success made. This will help in making a much better and attainable strategic plan for the next session.
