Toddler Biting
Most of the children at some point in their age have a problem of biting other children and sometimes even elders. This is normally at an age when they are about to have new teeth. Although toddler biting looks normal and natural, it is like a problem for other children. And because the day care people might not be able to handle this, they may not continue to accept the child at their place in this stage of life. This way toddler biting can pose like a problem to the parents specially because the child is too young for a punishment of a lecture and as such it being a natural process she does not deserve it either. Most of the daycare people when not able to handle this suggest the parents to visit a pediatrician.
The toddler biting can only be controlled by keeping a close watch on her, and the moment she tries to bite say no to her firmly and coolly. You should also try to distract her mind from that thought. Continuously keep a track on her is certainly difficult but once this is done for a couple of days it can help her problem of toddler biting. It is however very important that she does not have a feel of fact that she is being given an extra attention. The no should be a firm no but it should not be done in a way to make her feel horror some.
To control toddler biting the parents should follow certain tips in such a combination that the child does not form a negative frame of mind and at the same time gets rid of the habit comfortably. One thing is to remind her from time to time that it is not a good practice to bite. At the time when she does not bite any one appreciate her and create a positive effect in her mind. Regularize her daily routine including eating time, sleeping time and play time. While saying no to her biting, do not say any other negative statements to her that may make her feel uncomfortable. Just try to make her think of something else.
Teething is just one of the reasons of toddler biting but not the only reason. For children biting is also one of the ways of self defense. So first of all try to find the reason as to why she wants to bite? Whether she is annoyed with something or someone. Did someone take away her toy or something else? Or could she not have a proper sleep? Sometime it is noticed that she does toddler biting at day care but not at home. In this situation try to find what is it that she does not find comfortable at day care or is she attached with her parents too much to stay away from them. Just see if it is just a process of settling down at a new place, if so give her some time a space to let her come back to her normal.
